When a user scans the chip on the hangtag or box, the chip will detect the language used on the phone, and pull up the site in the corresponding language. Immediate options allow for further education about the product technology, other items at the store, sizing, and more.
The chip will transmit the store location being scanned to update available inventory at that location. The reviews will be pre-filtered to match the size of the product scanned.
We wanted to tailor the experience to the user as much as we could.
When the chip is scanned, the site will display reviews and corresponding user photos that are pre-filtered to match the product and size scanned. This will allow customers to feel more confident in their purchase. This feature was added to speed up the buying process. We found through our research that many users will look at merchandise in store, and then leave to research further and eventually purchase online. We wanted to make it easier to find the information, so they can be confident they are buying a good product.
Users will be able to easily explore the technology of the product, and learn in layman terms how it will positively impact their experience while wearing it.
Direct comparisons between Artilect technologies and competing brands will be shown to help the customer easily see how Artilect is the superior product and worth the price point.
We developed this feature based on our research that customers can become overwhelmed when presented with multiple brands, and don’t understand the different technologies
When a product is purchased the NFC chip is scanned by the store and the post-sale microsite ‘the underground’ is activated.
This prompts the user to complete their profile upon first scan after purchase.
The chip will then remember the IP address of their device.
The integrated technology provides location based recommendations and activity challenges, stranger scan and return capabilities, and simplified customer service.
The chip detects the phones location when scanned.
Complete individual challenges based on where you are when you scan your gear.
Challenge other Artilect members nearby.
Track your mileage while skiing, biking, or running to compete in Artilect Competitions.
This increases user interaction with the brand and helps build community.
Extend Product Life
Transfer Ownership
We wanted to create a way in which the second owner of an Artilect garment could benefit from these incredible features as well. By allowing for digital transfer of ownership, the value of these products remains high.
Transferring or ending one’s digital ownership of a garment would result in a coupon. This encourages users to keep their clothes out of the landfill.
Add Value
Stranger Scan
When a device scans the NFC chip that is not recognized it will display the stranger microsite. This consists of a digital ownership tag and Lifekey Integration.
Lifekey allows others to access users health and safety information quickly. The digital ownership tag is to help with lost merchandise.
The location of this scan will be recorded and sent to the owner as well.

“Travis” User Journey Pre NFC
After identifying problem areas and potential opportunities we brainstormed possible features. We then narrowed down the feature set and mapped out the information architecture. We found that customers were likely to ask store employees for recommendations, and those employees would be unfamiliar with different brand technology unless they wore it themselves. This is why we included the educational section.
For the post sale features we identified that we needed to find a way to encourage a second hand market, and reward customers for extending the products life. We also knew we needed to find ways to build a sense of community among the brand to increase brand loyalty, which is why we went with an ‘underground’ recommendation page, to give the users a feeling of exclusivity associated with the brand. Our next goal was to increase product engagement, and to do so we added the competition section to encourage use of the product but also engagement with other users wearing artifact products, again building a sense of community.
